Unit 2 Arts Leadership - Silver Arts Award Unit 2 Part B: plan the practical issues

Who are the participants or main audience for your project? Is there anything specific you need to consider for this audience? The participants will be four people, two people who are in their 70s and have no art background, one participant who is 17 and has an AS level in art and one participant who is 45 and enjoys drawing as a hobby How will you recruit participants? I will recruit participats in person. How will you deliver the project? I will use a powerpoint, and the spoken word to teach the subject. What practical things will you need to organise and how will you do this? (e.g. materials, resources, equipment, space) I will use my art equipment: paper, pencils, pens, rubbers. I will make sure they are up to quality. I will use my own art for reference, and online images for reference. The space I use, I will ask the occupants if the space is free, and if I can use it. What support are you going to need from other people? Who is going to help you and how? I get ad...

Unit 2 Arts Leadership - A: Identify leadership role and plan the project's aims

I met up with Kerry my Arts Award mentor in January this year to discuss my ideas for my leadership project.  I wondered whether to do an exhibition of my art work or whether to do a teaching session to pass on an art skill. I talked to my Art Teacher at my Friday lesson to perhaps doing an exhibition in his studio, or another option was to teach one of the younger children at the Art Lesson a digital art skill. I decided that I wanted to pass on an art skill to a group of mixed age people and I wanted to complete my Arts Award before the end of July this year. I thought about teaching  making creative sketches and paintings of liquids and objects.  I did a rough sketch of some ideas. My ideas I decided not to do watercolours as it might be hard for people to use their imagination and hard to teach them how to do that. Do I decided to teach the drawing of the human eye. Rough sketch and ideas about teaching the drawing of the human eye Today (24th Apri...

Silver Arts Award Unit 1 Part D: arts research

For part D of unit 1 of the silver arts award, I learned about different practitioners of the Arts and about careers and courses in the Arts through a careers and courses evening at Manchester Art school and a Graphic Design Saturday Club, also held from Manchester School of Art. Things I learned at the Graphic Design Club: In the Graphic Design Saturday Club, the different forms of art we learned ranged from typography, lettering, poster design, both digital and physical forms of graphic design, calligraphy and we did some rearranging shapes to make pictures. Various practitioners of graphic design came into the Saturday club to talk about the art form of which they study or work in, this included a typographer, calligrapher, and various graphic designers. I was inspired by the people who did the graphic design talk, since they talked about what forms of graphic design they did, so it made me think about what I wanted to do with my graphic design skills and has inspired me to ...

Silver Arts Award Unit 1 Part B: review your arts challenge

Did you achieve your arts challenge? My aim in this Arts Challenge is to learn how to do portraits and different faces in different mediums, and to learn how to do proper facial proportions when drawing. I think I have achieved this, and I am happy with most of the pieces of artwork I produced. I wanted to try out pastels, but my artwork ended up not getting finished on time. My art teacher helped me with doing the facial proportions, and using different techniques with the different mediums. What went well? Why? Ever since I begun the arts challenge, I have been drawing a lot more than I usually did, so I have improved on a lot of my skills. These skills include drawing technique, using the software for digital art, and getting the facial proportions right in all the mediums I practiced in. What was more challenging? Why? For me, I always had trouble with creating similar or symmetrical features on portraits, and I still find it very difficult to help change that on my portr...

Silver Arts Award Unit 1 Part C: review arts events - Twenty One Pilots

What happened at the arts event? Tweny One Pilots' concert, The Bandito Tour Where did you go? Manchester Arena What did you see/do? Twenty One Pilots concert. When did you go? 5th March 2019 What happened at the arts event? Music concert. Describe which art forms were involved. Music and visual arts. Have you seen or done something like this before? What was similar to things you’ve seen or done in the past? I've been to one other concert before, it was similar, but the contents of the concerts were very different, the way visual arts were used and also the styles of music. Was there anything unexpected about what you saw/experienced? During their third song, in the middle of the song, the music cut, and Tyler Joseph (the singer in Twenty One Pilots) fell down into a hole in the stage, and then he reappeared almost immediately in the crowd, on the top floor of the arena, with the spotlight on him, he then co...

Portrait in digital art

Reflection I was inspired to draw this by looking at photos. I thought about drawing a person in a hat at first, but this didn't go as planned, so I resized the drawing, and drew a better version of the picture.   I decided to draw him in a bandana instead. I enjoyed designing the picture, and I also enjoyed drawing the face, and perfecting the picture. I do find it difficult to get proportions right, like getting both the eyes to be a similar shape and size. It's also very time consuming to complete the drawing, so I spent a long time on the drawing. Colouring it in was quite simple, but finding the right colours was difficult, because sometimes the colours clashed and it didn't look quite right. Now that I have completed the full photo, I am satisfied with how it turned out. 7th December 2018

Clay modelling Egyptian portrait

I sculpted this portrait as suggested by my art teacher. It was quite difficult, but I got help off my teacher, who advised me, and helped me with the things I struggled with (getting the shape right and making the clay smooth). We started off by outlining where we wanted the portrait to be, and then building up on the outline in clay, to get it how we wanted it to be. I particularly struggled with proportions on this, especially since I haven't worked with clay much before. It was fun, but i don't think I would regularly do it, I prefer painting and drawing. I am not completely satisfied, because the colouring I used is not very similar to the actual photo, and I did not get the proportions right, so they don't perfectly look alike. However, I do like the outcome, however, because I like the way the face looks, although it doesn't look like the photo. People have commented that the pale green that I used on the face reminds them of old bronze statues and ...
