Practicing drawing faces and people in pencil

Reflection 1 - 15th October 2018


My aim was to practice drawing facial features in pencil.

I was trying to figure out how to do nose bridges in particular.

I found some internet tips on how to draw noses.
I found it difficult at first and made a few mistakes.

I drew the nose from different perspectives.

This was just for practice.

I am happy with the facial proportions and the shape of the lips.
I think that some of my shading techniques could be improved. I will ask my art teacher to help me.

Reflection 2 - 1st November 2018


I drew the picture of the girl in the beret from my imagination just for fun.

I found matching the eye shape difficult and feel that I have drawn the shoulders too broad.

I happy with the face shape and features and think that it is a nice picture.

I think I am improving on facial features in pencil drawings.

I drew the photo of a Cambodian girl from a photo book of portraits.

I enjoyed drawing the details of the headdress, and the accessories, like the necklace and bracelets.

I think I did the shading well, and I think I drew the eyes well also.

I could improve of the drawing of the hands, because I struggle to properly structure hands.

My art teacher helped by advising me on how to draw her facial shape, and to do the shading on the drawing.

My project:  Teaching a small group of people how to draw a realistic human eye using pencils. Silver Arts Award Unit 1 Part B: review your arts challenge

Did you achieve your arts challenge? My aim in this Arts Challenge is to learn how to do portraits and different faces in different mediums, and to learn how to do proper facial proportions when drawing. I think I have achieved this, and I am happy with most of the pieces of artwork I produced. I wanted to try out pastels, but my artwork ended up not getting finished on time. My art teacher helped me with doing the facial proportions, and using different techniques with the different mediums. What went well? Why? Ever since I begun the arts challenge, I have been drawing a lot more than I usually did, so I have improved on a lot of my skills. These skills include drawing technique, using the software for digital art, and getting the facial proportions right in all the mediums I practiced in. What was more challenging? Why? Silver Arts Award Unit 1 Part D: arts research

For part D of unit 1 of the silver arts award, I learned about different practitioners of the Arts and about careers and courses in the Arts through a careers and courses evening at Manchester Art school and a Graphic Design Saturday Club, also held from Manchester School of Art. Things I learned at the Graphic Design Club: In the Graphic Design Saturday Club, the different forms of art we learned ranged from typography, lettering, poster design, both digital and physical forms of graphic design, calligraphy and we did some rearranging shapes to make pictures. Various practitioners of graphic design came into the Saturday club to talk about the art form of which they study or work in, this included a typographer, calligrapher, and various graphic designers.
