Unit 2 Arts Leadership - Silver Arts Award Unit 2 Part D: working effectively with others

PLANNING WITH KERRY MY ARTS AWARD MENTOR

Why were you working/communicating with them?
She has the skills to help and advise me, since she has had past experiences.

What did you want to achieve? Did you manage to achieve it?
I wanted to achieve leadership skills, and so we planned and assessed my leadership skills, to improve them. I achieved this.

Did you have to resolve any issues you hadn’t previously thought about?
I didn't think about trial runs. However, I did one, where I followed my own tutorial, so I can ensure that it works well as I wrote it.

TEACHING PEOPLE THE SKILL

Why were you working/communicating with them?
Because they wanted to improve their art skills.

What did you want to achieve? Did you manage to achieve it?
I wanted to achieve better leadership skills, and confidence in my skillset to teach others. I believe I achieved this.

I used a feedback form to assess how the participants felt about my teaching style.  I got very good feedback.

Did you have to resolve any issues you hadn’t previously thought about?
Yes, the participants talked a lot, I had to ensure that they were listening.  They were just enjoying themselves but I had to ask them to be quiet so that they could hear my instructions.  Once I asked them to be quiet they did focus more.

Also, one participant had a hand tremor and this taught me to always consider the different abilities of participants when planning a teaching session, or similar.

I asked the participants to draw the subject, before I had taught them anything, so I can even better understand their skills, and help them based on their ability. After I asked the participants to try out drawing, I began my explanation of how I draw an eye.  My aim was to pass on the skill that I had previously learned and to encourage their own creativity by encouraging each participant individually to build on their own skills and not just cop...
