Portrait in digital art

Reflection I was inspired to draw this by looking at photos. I thought about drawing a person in a hat at first, but this didn't go as planned, so I resized the drawing, and drew a better version of the picture.   I decided to draw him in a bandana instead. I enjoyed designing the picture, and I also enjoyed drawing the face, and perfecting the picture. I do find it difficult to get proportions right, like getting both the eyes to be a similar shape and size. It's also very time consuming to complete the drawing, so I spent a long time on the drawing. Colouring it in was quite simple, but finding the right colours was difficult, because sometimes the colours clashed and it didn't look quite right. Now that I have completed the full photo, I am satisfied with how it turned out. 7th December 2018

Clay modelling Egyptian portrait

I sculpted this portrait as suggested by my art teacher. It was quite difficult, but I got help off my teacher, who advised me, and helped me with the things I struggled with (getting the shape right and making the clay smooth). We started off by outlining where we wanted the portrait to be, and then building up on the outline in clay, to get it how we wanted it to be. I particularly struggled with proportions on this, especially since I haven't worked with clay much before. It was fun, but i don't think I would regularly do it, I prefer painting and drawing. I am not completely satisfied, because the colouring I used is not very similar to the actual photo, and I did not get the proportions right, so they don't perfectly look alike. However, I do like the outcome, however, because I like the way the face looks, although it doesn't look like the photo. People have commented that the pale green that I used on the face reminds them of old bronze statues and ...

Acrylic practice

I started this painting off, because I wanted to try to draw and paint a more 'cartoony' style figure. I find painting in acrylics fun.  I really like the colours I used, since they are bright, and i like bright colours. I don' t really like the outline i did, since it is a lot thicker than i wanted the line to be. I am happy with the cartoon-like proportions of the face, and the simple look of the painting. The painting has helped me to learn what works well in acrylic and what doesn't.  Overall this was an enjoyable piece. 12th December 2018

Watercolour practice 2

I started this picture off with a vivid idea of what i wanted to do. I wanted to work off an album cover that I liked, but it didn't turn out like how I wanted it to.   So I drew the person in a room instead of the background shown on the album cover. I enjoyed drawing the background, and drawing the face. I like my paintings of the fish most, since they look nice. The painting of the face didn't turn out as I had hoped because I did the colours wrong, and it was a brighter red than I wanted. Overall, I find watercolours really fun, so I enjoyed creating this piece.

Watercolour practice 1

Reflection 2 26th October 2018 The colour looks a bit faded in this photo, the first one is nearer the right colour. I wanted to practice painting water colour faces I want to improve my water colour techniques. I watched some YouTube videos of people doing water colour faces to get some ideas. I found painting the hair challenging, but I was happy with the result, in the online photograph that I copied, the man’s hair was lit up by a blue light and I think I achieved that effect quite well. I would like to improve my shading techniques in water colours and to improve my neatness. But overall I am happy with the picture and consider it finished when I have cut the picture to size.

Practicing drawing faces and people in pencil

Reflection 1 - 15th October 2018 My aim was to practice drawing facial features in pencil. I was trying to figure out how to do nose bridges in particular. I found some internet tips on how to draw noses. I found it difficult at first and made a few mistakes. I drew the nose from different perspectives. This was just for practice. I am happy with the facial proportions and the shape of the lips. I think that some of my shading techniques could be improved. I will ask my art teacher to help me. Reflection 2 - 1st November 2018 I drew the picture of the girl in the beret from my imagination just for fun. I found matching the eye shape difficult and feel that I have drawn the shoulders too broad. I happy with the face shape and features and think that it is a nice picture. I think I am improving on facial features in pencil drawings. Reflection 3 - 11 January 2019 19th Jan 2019 1st Feb 2019 I drew the photo of a Camb...

This is my Arts Award work - planning stage (Unit 1 A - Identify and plan an arts challenge)

What I am interested in: I am interested in all different kinds of art forms.  I enjoy portraits and landscapes in different mediums. What I already do well: I feel quite confident in painting with acrylics and my sketching skills, but of course I always want to improve. My Challenge: My aim in this Arts Challenge is to learn how to do portraits and different faces in different mediums. I would like to try out pastels, watercolours, ink drawing, digital art and perhaps clay modelling...but I am open to different ideas! Why have I chosen this challenge?: I am choosing to do portraits because I really enjoy drawing and painting people.  Particularly portraying different emotions in aspects of the picture so that I can give an impression of who I am drawing or painting. What will the outcome be? The outcome I would like to achieve is to learn to properly do facial proportions and to produce a finished piece or even many pieces! How will I show my progress?...
